Signatory Campaign to Oppose China’s Membership on UN Human Rights Council

Initiatives for China has launched the signatory campaign to oppose China’s membership on UN Human Rights Council on September 9, 2013, and has won support from all walks of life since its beginning. Signatories have reached 1,006 as of September 16 at NOON (EST).

Tiananmen Mother Ding Zilin and other Tiananmen mothers including Jiang Peikun and Youweijie, have joined the signatory. Human rights activist Chen Guangcheng, who had been living in exile in New York, has expressed his firm support for this important citizen initiative when he signed his name. In the past week, on the signatory list of prominent figures are Yan Jiaqi, Hu Ping, Fang Zheng, Chen Kuide, Bei Feng, Sheng Xue, Hua Ze, Feng Congde, Wang Juntao, Perry Link, Xiao Guozhen, Liao Tianqi, Chang Ping, Su Yutong, Cheng Kai, Yang Yu, Ren Wanting, Qi Jiazhen, Chen Liqun, Hong Zhesheng, Chen Weijian, Chen Weiming, Cai Cu, Zhang Qing, Li Qiai, Zhang Xiaogang, Luo Yungeng, Ren Xuebing, Guo Baosheng (overseas), Wuer Kaixi, Wang Dan, Yang Changzhen, Chen Xiuhui, Lin Baohua, Lin Shiyi, Zhang Yifeng, Zeng Jianyuan (Taiwan), Zheng Yushuo, Tao Junxing, Xin Yu, Pan Jiawei, Cai Shufang, Cai Yongmei, Meng Lang, Wu Yisan, Wu Daqi (Hong Kong), Hu Jia, Temng Biao, Qixiang Jiejie, Xia Yeliang, Shang Baojun, Zheng Enchong, Gao Yu, Tang Cailong, Kong Shengli, Jiang Lijun, Lu Gengsong, Guo Yongfeng, Chen Yunfei, Liu Shasha, Chen Shuqing, Liao Shuangyuan, Liu Anjun, Guo Shaokun (Mainland China), and many more human rights activists among Tibetan, Urghur and Mongolian ethnic groups.

Most recently, Wang Gongquan has been detained and put into custody. Central Government Office in Hong Kong has criticized the citizen-nominated popular vote proposed by pro-democracy groups. Only two pro-democracy candidates won recent Macao legislature… All these demonstrates that it is high time for this signatory campaign to oppose China’s membership on UN Human Rights Council, which is in urgency to act swiftly.
