In reaction to China pressuring Japan in an attempt to prevent the World Uyghur Congress’s 4th General Assembly meeting to be held in Tokyo in May, Initiatives for China issued the following statement:
IFC is appalled at China’s blatant interference in Japan’s internal affairs by bullying Japan in an attempt to prevent the WUC from holding its meeting there.
IFC condemns China’s aggressive insertion of its oppressive policy into the international arena, a clear violation of international law.
IFC believes that the Chinese Communist regime is solely responsible for the tension and violence in the Xinjiang region, which has seriously harmed harmonious interethnic relations. The Uyghur human rights activists are merely trying to defend their basic human rights through peaceful means.
IFC urges Japan not to yield to China’s groundless demands and ensure that the WUC meeting is held without any harassment from China. IFC also encourages the international community to join forces in protest against China’s bullying behavior.
